The VCU spirit mark, or “shield”, is an athletics visual identity element that may be used to promote school spirit in certain non-academic settings and situations.
Usage is restricted to retail sales, events/initiatives that promote school spirit and extracurricular activities/programs that are contextually and strategically tied to sports or athletics.
The spirit mark must always have the registered trademark symbol.
- DO NOT use the spirit mark in any official academic capacity including general communications, promotional items or marketing materials of any kind.
- DO NOT use the spirit mark in place of an official university brand mark.
- DO NOT alter the spirit mark in any way.
- DO NOT combine the spirit mark with any other university branding, including official logos or word marks.
- DO NOT use on signage unless approved by Athletics or Enterprise Marketing and Communications.
Improper uses
DON’T use the spirit mark to replace the seal, and never lock up the spirit mark with the VCU typography.
DON’T remove background crest.
DON’T add additional elements.
DON’T change colors.
DON’T flip orientation.
DON’T rotate.
DON’T distort.
DON’T use the outdated VCU Rams logo.
The only approved spirit mark for usage by institutional and academic units is the Ram Crest.
The VCU Ram Horn logo, the Charging Ram and all VCU Rams word and combination marks are NOT to be used as spirit marks or replacements for the academic mark; they are reserved for VCU Athletics use ONLY.
