Iconography

Our icons are one of our proprietary brand identity elements. They help quickly communicate an idea in context and differentiate our communications. Our icon style is unique to our brand, making them recognizable and ownable.

Our icons are mono weight (every line weight matches) to maintain their integrity at smaller sizes. They're designed to be scaled to both larger and smaller sizes.

Generally, our icons are intended to support written content and are not intended to replace copy or text. Use our icons in conjunction with text descriptions, whether they are titles or blocks of copy. In all cases, it is imperative to provide context. Do not place icons in controlled shapes like squares or circles. Rather, place our icons on a white or solid background color.

Color

Our icons are designed to appear in two colors (VCU Health gold and light gray) on a white background or, alternatively, in reversed color (VCU Health gold and white) on a dark background that provides good color contrast. The two-color treatment should be used in all digital and four-color process applications.

Two-color use provides dimension and a differentiating quality that helps our icons stand out as a brand identity element. One-color treatments should only be used when printed color use is limited to a one-color application.

Minimum size

The minimum approved size (the smallest allowable size) for icons is 24 points for print applications and 24 pixels for digital applications. The distance is measured on the longest side for each icon. This minimum sizing helps preserve the integrity of our icons.
