The brand bar is a centrally supported, easy-to-use digital mark that delivers a consistent user experience across all VCU web properties. It is required on all vcu.edu websites, except the VCU home page, VCUarts, VCU Athletics, the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA), and VCU Alumni.

The brand bar consists of the VCU seal, typography, the UNCOMMON wordmark, and a Give to VCU icon. It also includes links to the VCU home page, an UNCOMMON landing page, and support.vcu.edu. The bar is available in four colors: light gray, dark gray, gold, and white.

Requirements for websites

VCU websites with the brand bar must follow specific branding rules, distinct from other media. These requirements apply unless an approved exception is granted by the Enterprise Marketing and Communications brand identity team.

Websites with a brand bar that includes the VCU master mark may not use their unit’s master mark in the site title, as the repetition of the VCU logo that results from this placement is not in line with brand standards. The department’s name should be displayed as text in the header.

Correct usage

Gray VCU brand bar above Enterprise Marketing and Communications site header over a gold background.

Incorrect usage

Gray VCU brand bar above incorrect EMC site header with VCU master mark over a gold background.

More information about brand standards for websites is available on the Websites page

Mobile brand bar

On mobile devices, because space is at a premium, the brand bar is loaded at the top of the page and may be used in conjunction with approved menu and search icons placed to the left and right of the centered seal. The brand bar will always have a white background.
